Sarajevo Symphony!

Last Thursday evening we had the pleasure of attending a concert of the Sarajevo Youth Orchestra, as they welcomed a guest violinist for a performance of select pieces from Mozart. The concert took place in a former Military hall, that was originally constructed by the Austro-Hungarians, when they ruled over Sarajevo on the 19th Century. Here are a couple pictures from the evening...

Masa is here with her cousin Namik and his fiance, Zina.

Myself, Zina, and Masa as we await the second Act...
Sarajevo is a diverse and cosmopolitan cultural cultural city. I suppose that as a North American, I could describe it as "very European", and then realize how silly that sounds to say while I am sitting here. But the mixture of peoples, ethnicities, religions, and cultures is one that makes for a vibrant and exciting community.

Sigh. Yet Another Bernard-Henri Lévy.

DUDES!!! SALAAAMMMM!!!
so, this is what i have to do to get through to you,eh, Masa?
(smiles) AHamdullilah, i'm most happy to hear that you guys are alive and kicking and doing well. Sarajevo sounds like Cairo...things move slowwwllyyy...everythig is Inshallah, Bukra and Maalish. all things that people say when it's their fault that things are delayed!

Anyway, as you know from my last email, Masa, drama for your mamma as usual in my life. all created in my head of course...well, not quite. there's more to it.

the work here is awesome. tiring and draining but i actually feel like i'm doing something, however minute it is. and i hope to God, our clients feel the same way, too.

in any case, i better get my ass moving on starting a blog as well.

re: plans for new year's, i'm pretty sure i'm gonna be here as well...omg, new year's in Cairo??? Pls. come visit! that'd be awesome! anywya, we'll chat more about that in private emails :)

Inshallah, we'll talk soon.
Ma es salaama,
hugs,
-G

Hello guys,
it's Annelieke here. Srdjan gave me your blogaddress and have been reading with great interest. Sounds like a fantastic adventure! You might or might not have heard that I am back in Europe as well. Actually living in Amsterdam so if you ever want a get-away-weekend I would be happy to offer a place to stay. Except between Januari and April, since I will be in Jakarta for research in those months....
Anyway, everything is great here. If you are curious about life in Amsterdam: http://tangueralieke.web-log.nl/diarios/
